Taking longer than expected
There was another meeting for The Edge project today, I was pretty hopeful with it as it appeared to be that we had finished it all off yesterday and all that we had to do today was link it with the A.I and run it past Mike Phillips.
But 5 hours later we still haven’t finished, we have met every day this week and only seem to be slightly closer to the finishing it than we were on Wednesday.
The flash file was working all fine just had to tweak some of the design and add links and our names (which took a lot longer than we all thought it would) which is annoying and stressful as it is.
The worst thing which is really delaying it is the A.I bit, at the beginning of the project we were told we’ll have nothing to do with the A.I and Chris Saunders and Justin (who did the Noogy thing) were doing it.
Yet the day before the deadline (well when we’re all available) we’re still here waiting to sort it out before we launch the flash site which HAS to be ready on Monday.
None of us know anything about A.I or how it works and all we’ve been given is a URL to write the question to and then the XML file that should give you a response…but the XML file is empty and doesn’t respond anything…so basically it doesn’t work.
The guy who does know about it all is Chris Saunders and he’s not in so we can’t talk to him directly about it to sore it all out, he’s out moving house so we’re trying to talk to him on the phone while he’s busy.
I’m really fed up with this because I could and should be at home working on the essay now I have to go home and fit it all in with a full house trying to cook dinner and go to work all weekend….the way I see it I’ve lost 5 hours worth of work on this where we’re not going anywhere and seem to be hitting our head against a brick wall.
Soundbooth
To edit the sound files for this project I downloaded the new Adobe sound editing software called Soundbooth, it’s fairly similar to Audition only it’s supposed to be easier to use.
It does look like a good programme to use, but I haven’t had the time and I don’t have the time at the moment to learn how to use it properly, and I can’t edit multiple tracks together which is what I’ll need to do.
There are some handy features like getting rid of background noise etc but for the type of sound files I have I doubt they’ll be a lot of extra noise to get rid of.
At the moment my priority is mixing the sounds together to produce one smooth background noise for the flash site, and then if I have time look around Soundbooth because it’ll probably be useful for some of my other projects this term and next term espeically the Hugo presentation.
