Ok got the website finished, got the CSS styles to work, the artefact is all done and so it the Mapping.

I showed Kat the story that I had written last night, and she thought it was funny…she was actually laughing as she was reading it, she couldn’t even read it to Claudia and Ollie because she was laughing so much.
But she does have a weird sense of humour so I don’t know if thats because my story of people killing others to have their house or it is just her sense of humour…we’ll have to wait and find out.

She told me she had problems with her story last night as her computer kept crashing every five minutes, and I really know how that feels, so we’ve still got some work to do.
We at least have the pages done, with pictures so I can include them in my story, we did however have problems with CSS styles the don’t seem to work with the BBC website although we got them straight off the internet just like the html for the page itself.

As Kat’s computer keeps crashing I’ll be sorting them out tonight, just hope that I can get it all done in time for the deadline tonight. I know it’s at midnight but if it goes wrong could take some time to fix, and then it’s also changing it around so that it’ll work with what we’re trying to get it to do.

So here goes!

On Thursday me and Kat met up to begin work on this, we had our idea and how we were going to go about it, also what would go wrong and how it’ll effect the society around it.

We started the start page to say that these Domes were going to be put in place, with just the headline and other headlines and mini feeds for other news in the future.

We had some fun making up what would happen, and some of the stories I must admit are a bit stupid but still its a laugh like Gap Kids bringing out a new range of baby space suits.
We completed that on  Thursday including the pictures, only the links don’t work just yet, but we’ll tackle that today when we join both the story introducing the Domes and what goes wrong.

Over the weekend it was my job to write and produce the website to do with  “What goes wrong” which I wrote up last night, I did put it in place of a story but we need to work on a picture and the links. Also I want to show Kat what I’ve written and to get her opinio on it, and see if she thinks I need to change anything to it.

Kat was working on the story of the Domes being introduced by the Government to the country, not sure if she’s included how they’ll work, if not we can work on that together today.
I think today in Mike’s lecture if we’re allowed to we should work on getting the links into the story working, I also want to check with him if other links need to work also.

We may also have to show the start up page to show the headline for the Domes going wrong, again I’ll need to discuss this with Kat today.

Personally I feel that I’ve some what neglected this assignment, I’ve been too preoccupied with the Mapping and the Artefact to take much notice and work on it. I didn’t realize how much work would be involved with it i.e. getting the links working and stuff.
Although it didn’t take me long to write the story and to place it in the layout of the website there is still a lot of work to do, for instance we haven’t yet been able to find a good enough picture of a dome to show what it’ll look like. So we’re going to make one in Illustrator which also needs to be done today, if there is time if not we’ll have to make do with one we find on the internet.

Now that I’ve completed the Artefact project I can work on the story for the “Life Domes”.

Just like with the start page me and Kat worked on on Thursday I copied the source code for story page to insert my story in there. And copied that into Dreamweaver to begin writing it.
I did start of typing it up in there, but changed my mind and decided to write it in Microsoft Word instead as I could use Shift F7 to get different words instead of using the same ones again and again.
It ended up being longer than I thought it would be but not sure if it’s alright to use have to wait and see what Kat things, I wasn’t sure which news company it should come from so I used both a Sky News page an the BBC page, I began with the Sky News as we had used BBC News previously but it was a lot harder to edited stuff out as it had lots of adverts and stuff.
As I had written the story up in Word I could simply copy and paste it over to the BBC News format, I’ve saved them both on my USB memory stick to show Kat tomorrow in Uni.

Today  I met up with Kat to get our ideas down on paper and then onto the computer, originally we were going to do a website as well as an advert on Flash to promote this idea to the Government.
However we soon threw that idea out, as it’ll take too long to get the Flash working in the way we want, or draw a plan to show to the fake Government.
We then decided to do two websites, or more precise two news stories, one showing the Domes being brought in and describing how they work etc. and then one set further into the future with everything going wrong and the problems that occurred because of these “Life Domes”.
To begin with we did the front page of the website, we took the source code of the BBC News site and put that into Dreamweaver, we then selected each separate story and just edited the details to future news stories which we made up.
We also changed the pictures, and realated stories to them.
This took most of the afternoon as we spent about half an hour trying to find a place to work as all the rooms in Babbage floor 2 where being used for lectures, and in the Open Access room we couldn’t find two computers together.  We did end up for an hour in one room by Open Access which could be used as long as no lecture was taking place.
We had to leave though as  a class was coming in, we took that opportunity to go get an Ibby’s  which we ate in the Canteen in Babbage.
Going back to work was when we completed the firs site, the next job for us was to do the individual stories, which we’d both work on over the weekend.

Tomorrow afternoon me and Kat are meeting up to start work on the Intersices project, we know what we want to do, and have added a few ideas…so tomorrow we’ll just talk about the Social effect it’ll have and any problems and begin on the Newspaper front page and new story of it.
We’re going to try and do two paper stories…one for when this technology is first used and it’s reasons for use, what the public think etc. and another one for a later date when it goes wrong or problems occur because of this technology…I’ll update this more tomorrow after our meeting.

Me and Kat have no got an idea for this project (we did come up with some which were funny but made no sense and wouldn’t really change things) Now I’m not sure if what we fianlly decided from has come from a book or a film but it’s what we’re going for anyway.

As Global Warming is a big issue we have decided to make our Interstices project to prevent the damage of the atomosphere (or something like that) by having every city and villiage in its own little dome (as in have their own atomosphere) which the government/or local counsel will control the weather and the climate for each city (obviousy they’ll need to vary it so that they get the right propertions of rain, sun etc.).

We’re going to present this idea as if we’re (Me and Kat) work for the company who will be building these domes, and show the Prime Minister the Dome’s and what they do, and what will change etc.
This will be done by a series of drawings both hand drawn and computer animated as well as an advert…and if we have time a website of the dome’s being put it place or being built in London.

This idea will bring many changes in the country/world as it’ll mean that instead of any chemicals going up into the atomsphere and going around the world they’ll be trapped inside the dome over the city…could produce a lot of smog in cities that didn’t have it before.
People will probably stay in their “dome” and only move around in that city i.e. not travel around as much or not at all if they have to go outside the dome.

Kat and I will have to think about these things, see if we can get around it (to persuade the Prime Minister to go with the Dome idea) as well as show what effect they’ll have on the planet and the human race.

I’ll be working with Kat for this project, at the moment all we’ve got is speculation and just some quick ideas floating around, nothing for definate or even any proper idea (i.e. something that we could work with).

I’m currently finding this a bit difficult to begin, this isn’t because it’s a hard task that we’ve been set but it’s trying to think of something that 1) isn’t around today 2) haven’t seen on TV and 3) something that’s realstic.

Obviously alot of the “ideas” that have come up so far have all be influenced by something in some way (one I suggested being influenced by Minority Report) and one Kat suggested influenced by another Students work she saw the preivous year when coming for her open day.

While at work today I did come up with a sort of idea although this has kinda been seen before in again Minortity Report or iRobot (might even be in both) is future travel and not cars or something along those lines.

Have to organise a time to meet up with Kat to really think about any ideas we may have and come up with one idea that we’ll look into and see about how to present it. Mike suggested to the whole class (today in his lecture) either as an advert, a webpage or something along those lines.

We also need to look at how it’ll effect society in good and bad ways and discuss that or include it in our presentation…so a lot of workbook work as well as blogging, and drawing which Kat will have to do as I’m not good at drawing of any kind even my stick drawing seem a bit funny.
