3D Movie intro

September 30, 2007 at 5:22 pm (IDAT 201)

Since the lecture on Monday I’ve been thinking about the object to use for this project or something to research. I’ve come up with 2 objects that I could use, one of which has sparked 3 ideas on how to represent this item.
I’ve noted what those ideas are in my workbook, and I’ve drawn a sort of story board for them (pictures will be uploaded later). The first orginal idea I came up with in the first lecture, was a possiblity something that I could expand further was Converse shoes, but mixing them with another shoe that’s availabe the “wheelers” or whatever they’re called. It’s trainers with wheels on the heels so the wear can wheel around. The object was going to be the Converse shoe with wheels on the heel to be ‘Skate Shoes’.
i first chose to Converse because of why they were orginally made for, as basketball shoes – so there’s history and culture behind them and as time went on the group of people who wore those shoes.
I was hoping to portray the shoes as something more than just baskeball shoes but as skate shoes too, so the wear can play basketball and skate at the same time.
At work Monday night I jotted down a sketch of this idea on the back of a reciept roll I took from the till (A Picture will show up later).
This was still an idea one which I was going to look into further, but with more thought I decieded against it – only because it’ll be mixing two shoes together so not inventing a new product or representing it differently…either shoe.
However I did want to stick with the Converse – this opened up to a lot of possibities and how to represent the shoe and what message I wanted to get across with this film.
This is the ‘idea’ that I have split into 3 seperate ideas which are fairly similar but are shown differently – out of all three I prefer the 3rd one the most (all of the ideas I’ll go through in more detail in the next couple of posts).
The other object that I had an idea for was a car and try to represent it as something more than just a mode of transport or something to get you from A to B – I’m not sure if this has been done before – but I’d need to run each idea through with Katrina first.

Back Again

September 27, 2007 at 10:02 pm (Year 2)

Back at uni for round two of DAT! More challenging than last year, more demanding and more expected from us…going to be fun!

So after a very lazy holiday, we were jumped right back into student life with our first lecture 9 o’clock Monday morning! Not only was it so early for me (don’t think I’ve been up that early since last year (told you my holiday was lazy) it was HCI which is the least technical module I have…although not boring it does involve more theory than practical and I like to be very hands on.
Although saying that come two weeks time I might want more theory and lesson hands on work! So watch this space.

I’ve survived the first week back, getting up early, making it to lectures on time and in some cases even early! As well as being prepared for my lectures *shock* wonder how short lived that’ll be?
It has been a fairly easy going week, with half my practicals starting next week leaving us with just lectures, although far from boring or interesting for that matter it’s given me a lot of food for thought.
Espeically as we seem to be getting our assignments fairly soon and expect to be thinking about them now rather than when we get the offical breif it’s been a bit of a shock for a lack of a better word for me.
I admit, I had no idea what to expect in our second year, I knew that the type of work we should be producing will be completly different to what we were doing last year to a degree but wasn’t sure what would be required of us as programmers/developers or designers.
The first week has been a bit of a shock for me, not because it wasn’t what I thought it would be but because of the standard of work we should be producing…I suppose I’m just worried that I won’t meet that standard and the work I produce is no different or better or of a higher quality than last years work. I just hope I can keep up with the fast pace of the second year.
I admit that I wasn’t too sure what to expect in the second year, I knew that the work would be more intense than last year, the quality of work that we produce will need to be of a higher standard than last year.
This year we’ll be working on our own for a lot of the assignments which is both intimidating as well as exciting…have more control over what we make and how it goes without a lecturer “spoon-feeding” us through everything.
I’m looking forward to working on these projects later this year and increasing the skills in my programming, designing and developing new things.
